EU Sustainable Energy Week was held this year from 18 to 22 June 2012 in Brussels, EUSEW is considered the core annual event of the Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign, which features activities dedicated to energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions. It aims to demonstrate to businesses, decision-makers and the wider public that sustainable energy technologies are viable, cost-effective and good for the environment and our economy.
A milestone of the Week is the Sustainable Energy Europe Awards Ceremony. Five winners are chosen from among 262 projects submitted by public authorities, private companies, European associations, universities and NGOs committed to the promotion of energy efficiency, renewable energy, energy education and clean transport across Europe.
The five winners of the 2012 SEE Awards were announced on 19 June at an Award Ceremony in Brussels hosted by EU Commissioner for Energy, Günther H. Oettinger.
The winners, chosen from a total of 262 projects submitted from across Europe, are:
Category ‘Communicating’: EnergizAIR, Belgium
Category ‘Consuming’: Energy-savings check for households with low income, Germany
Category Learning: Enercities, Netherlands
Category Living: Brussels Nearly Zero Energy Building Policy, Belgium
Category Travelling: ‘Remember When?’ Campaign 2011 (Liftshare.com Ltd, UK)
For the first time, this year the event also hosted the ManagEnergy Local Energy Action Award. A technical support initiative of the Intelligent Energy - Europe (IEE) programme of the European Commission, ManagEnergy chose one winner out of a record 64 submissions:
