On Friday the 21st November, the first Euro-Egyptian Energy Day took place at the Aquarium Grotto in Zamalek under the auspices of H.E Ibrahim Mehleb, the Prime Minister of Egypt and inaugurated by H.E. Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour, Minister of Industry, Trade and Small Industries and H.E. Prof. Khaled Fahmy, Minister of Environment.
With the goal to raise public awareness of Energy Efficiency (EE) and its uses in everyday life, the implementation of Renewable Energy (RE) and the links between energy and climate change the Euro-Egyptian Energy Day attracted more 1000 visitors on Friday.
With the main focus on employees and families of key institutions involved in both energy policy and Energy Efficiency solutions the Confederation of Egyptian European Business Associations together with Egyptian institutions involved in Sustainable Energy and with the support of the European Union and the Arab Republic of Egypt (TARES) organized an all-day program and activities for adults and children to give them a better understanding of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
Starting with the opening speeches of Ahmed El Wakil, President of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, Dr. Anhar Hegazy, Head of Energy Efficiency Department - Information and Decision Support Center, H.E. James Moran, EU Ambassador, EU Delegation in Egypt, H.E. Prof. Khaled Fahmy, Minister of Environment and H.E. Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour, Minister of Industry, Trade and Small Industries and the distribution of certificates for "Energy Managers of the Public Sector in Egypt" the day continued with exhibitions of different institutions and companies, which were demonstrating their products in the field of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. Furthermore many workshops like for example about Energy Audit in Public Building or Functionality of Solar PV and many more were held during the day. During different live experiments like the production of Biodiesel from Waste Cooking Oil or during a ride on one of the electric bikes the visitors could experience the practical implementation of Renewable Energy.
Besides the activities for the adults, the main focuses of this day were the educational activities and programmes allowing children and youth to discover EE & RES. Therefore different Science Stations, Solar Kids workshops and Kids Energy Challenges as well a Marionette Show which demonstrated the kids the importance of energy efficiency in everyday life and many more activities were realised that day.
The Euro-Egyptian Energy Day was organized by CEEBA in the name of the TARES Project and the EU Delegation in Egypt.
